Takapuna Castle (winner of the NZ Heralds Home of the Year) Merksworth Castle is an over 100 year old heritage property in desperate need of modernising and restoration. Evans Builders took on the mammoth task of bringing the grand manor into the 21st century. It entailed digging down into the heart of the building with specialised equipment In order to create more living space and a sense of openness. Previously segmented spaces have been opened into one large living, dining and kitchen space, flooded with natural light. While the interior design is contemporary and crisp - with white walls, glass balusters and a glass walkway - homage is paid to the building's vintage with new features such as rustic-finish dark-stained American oak flooring.
